On July 1st, the Nuggets and Jamal Murray agreed to a 5 year, $170 million dollar max extension. Murray showed flashes of potential that made the one-two punch of Jokic and himself look as if it could be a combo that could lead the Nuggets to the top of the West for years to come. But inconsistency make the extension, that will pay Murray $22 million dollars more than Jokic, extremely risky. It begs the question, did Jamal Murray deserve the massive contract?

Murray made significant strides in many key categories in his third year with Denver, including averaging a career highs in points (18.2 ppg) and assists (4.8 apg). His leadership and tenacity were evident in the Nuggets playoff run, which Murray helped push to 7 games in the Semifinals. Murray and Jokic have developed an effective two man game, which gave the Spurs and Blazers fits at times in the playoffs. But is that worth $170 million dollars for an unproven 21 year old? Murray also regressed in multiple categories this season, including FG%, 3Pt%, and FT%.
