Nuggets Take Huge Risk by Giving Jamal Murray $170 Million

The Nuggets dropped their balls on the table and gave 21 year old PG Jamal Murray a 5 year, $170 million max extension. This is a ballsy move, as Murray has been inconsistent throughout his career, but has shown flashes of potential. I hope Tim Connelly knows what he's doing, because signing the young guy to a max who hasn't shown that he is an All-Star can backfire pretty massively (See Porter, Otto and Wiggins, Andrew). This could be due to taking more shots, but it isn't what you would like to see from a player who is making $22 million more than your First Team All-NBA Center. Does Jamal Murray Deserve the Max?

On July 1st, the Nuggets and Jamal Murray agreed to a 5 year, $170 million dollar max extension. Murray showed flashes of potential that made the one-two punch of Jokic and himself look as if it could be a combo that could lead the Nuggets to the top of the West for years to come. But inconsistency make the extension, that will pay Murray $22 million dollars more than Jokic, extremely risky. It begs the question, did Jamal Murray deserve the massive contract?
